What can be salvaged from a Heavy Industrial Chemical Facility after a tropical storm caused significant flood damage and how do we prevent this from happening again?
After a tropical storm that caused major flooding in a heavy industrial chemical facility, AllianceEPC was contracted out immediately to assess the damage and determine a quick solution to regain use of the facility as soon as possible. Portable generators were procured to provide temporary power to the entire plant while overseeing electrical testing companies to clean/dry the exiting switchgear and restore power in the short order to facilitate site production. Some gear was too damaged to regain power so temporary high voltage bypasses were installed as a short-term solution.
The previous grid was installed on grade, and once the facility was back in operation, Alliance set out to design a new elevated switchgear house and distribution system to avoid this issue for any future unforeseen flooding issues. Using our 3-D laser scanning technology, we designed the new fuses to fit in very tight spots that were in close proximity to the compromised gear. We were then able to expedite the new distribution equipment, install it, and, make it operational within one year, without incurring any additional downtime at the facility.
